Fire and the Joys of Having Neighbors

We were inside on break from hacking down vines and weeds (nature’s kindling) when our neighbor, Stu, knocked on the door. Stu lives two doors down and is a very friendly person. He’s invited us over for backyard BBQs and has visited us a few times. We’re always very glad to see him.
Stu ended up staying for lunch (a clam chowder with mushrooms) and returning later to hang out around the fire. Stu also brought a GORGEOUS poinsettia with him which now sits in the kitchen window.
We got to thinking about the joys of the season and how wonderful it is to have good neighbors and friends. As we sat outside the fire pit and talked about the best way to make BBQ ribs… all I could think was how blessed we all were to be there in that moment.
Work ended early for us yesterday though. We had to pick up my car from its 15,000 mile appointment. By the time we got home, it was dark and we were exhausted. We did walk through the woods where we’ve been working and thrilled to the fact that we COULD walk through them now. Victory!
