Full Circle

Lorelai died last night around eight o’ clock. We buried her in the back field near the start of our future pond. Losing an animal, no matter how small, is very hard for us. We were both loved our little Lorelai and grew especially fond of her since bringing her in as our “house chicken.”

Morning Moth Surprise!

This morning, we found the moth (pictured above) as we were leaving for Geneva to pick up some laying pellets and on the way there we discussed getting some chicks. The Geneva Feed & Seed only had males so we paid for our pellets and started home. I asked if we could stop and see a little feed store I’d noticed on the way to Geneva. This was in the little town of Box Springs. Josh never turns down the chance to wander through a farm & feed store so we ended up in their parking lot. I have to tell you that I fell in love with the place upon getting out of the car. Right in front of the store were ducklings, fruit trees, and muscadine grape vines for sale. Everyone was friendly and helpful inside, so Josh and I scattered. Josh looked for our favorite dog food and I found a room with barred rock, araucana, and bantam chicks, ducklings, and poults (baby turkeys). We ended up with six chicks (four araucanas and two barred rocks), two ducklings, and two poults.5 chicks, 2 ducklings, 2 poults

Be thinking about names! All the chicks are female. We’re not sure about the ducklings. The poults are now Cheech and Chong (because they are turkeys… er… not smart).

Also, check out the photos from the mission trip in the lower Flickr photo album because more have been added.  Tia Julie and Tio Raul mailed them to me and I couldn’t wait to share them!
