Start at Home

We hope that it won’t come to that. We hope that when our future child sees our profile with the pictures of our home (the child’s bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, etc.) that he or she will actually want to be here. So, we spent the weekend working to create a durable but fashionable bathroom. Originally, it had powder blue flat paint with a border that looked more like shelf liner than accent. I chose a taupe in a semi-gloss so it would be easy to wipe clean should muddy little hands find it. The light… well, I just couldn’t stand the showgirl vanity lights any longer. Exposed bulbs are great until you install energy saving bulbs with their ugly coils. Yuck. That is also why we turned the new light upside down.

My thought is to decorate the walls with some black and white photography. I thought I might accent with some light green. What do you think?

And while we were hard at work making things gorgeous… what do you think our darling Golden Retrievers were up to? I’ll give you two hints: it wasn’t rated G and Dustin was so winded that I caught him doing this:

Think: puppies. But the picture of the weekend just has to be this one of Sara Beth, our house chicken. Perhaps I shouldn’t refer to her as the “house chicken” because that sounds like the lunch special at a diner — ya know? Sara Beth had trouble maintaining her body heat so she stayed in the house at night under a heat lamp (Not running loose, okay?). She goes back outside during the heat of the day and spends her time plotting and scheming to get back in the house. Here she is after having been removed from the house for the umpteenth time:

Vegetable Wash

Have you seen the price on vegetable washes lately? It’s horrible! My good friend, Gina, asked me how I wash my vegetables and I thought I’d show you:

I run my sink with an inch or two of water (more if I am washing a lot of stuff) and then pour in four cups of vinegar and a handful of salt. I then swish it with my hand until the salt dissolves.

Now I gently massage each vegetable or fruit in the salt/vinegar water. I then rinse.

The best time to wash your vegetables is before you put them away. If you wait until you are pulling them out while preparing a meal — you will be frustrated and possibly forget to do it altogether.

Messiest Kid Photo Contest

I just love contests! They are such a blast! I thought that I would share the current competition with everyone. We’ll vote on Friday May 30 (a week from today) and the winner will be announced on Saturday. I’m asking — no, I’m begging — for you guys to tell me what prize would be best. It will be homemade for sure but what would you like? More napkins? Salsa? Pepper jelly? P-p-p-please tell me!
