The Simple Living Gal — Exposed

September 9, 2008|Comments (23)

Okay, friends/family, I know you’ve had questions.  And why shouldn’t you?  I am pretty ding dang mysterious.  So, I promised answers.  Oh, and you’ll get them… along with some linky love.  I also want to apologize for not visiting your blogs lately.  My aunt and uncle were visiting from Maryland and I’ve been swamped.  Forgive me?

Julie at Elisharose writes:  Do your dogs and fowl get along? If so, did you have to do something to foster that or did your dogs not come with the “kill all birds” gene?

Oh, my goodness, Julie — I wish!  Truthfully, Logan (who gleefully killed baby bunnies when she was less than a year old) is the only one who seems uninterested in the chickens.  Go figure.  Dustin is just curious about the whole wing-flapping thing.  If the chickens just walked around without flapping… he might be able to coexist wth them.  Grace is like that character, Flash, in the Incredibles.  We’ll be looking right at her and suddenly a dead chicken will appear in her mouth.  It’s amazing.

Kat (LA Blogger) writes: What camera are you using?

I use a Samsung Digimax V6/V6000 and it’s a nice little camera.  Josh purchased it for me before we embarked on our Big Move from Washington to Georgia.  I love it because it is small but takes pretty good pictures.  I dislike automatic settings and have learned how to scroll through the menu very quickly to produce “real” pictures.  It’s also really easy to transition from color to black and white to sepia.  My dream camera?  Nikon 80 or Nikon 90.  Those things can realign satellites.  Imagine the damage I could do!

Ann of Velvet Lava Cafe writes:  Do you work outside the home, I can never quite tell - because given what you DO at home, I can’t imagine HOW you could work outside the home as well, you know?

I do work outside the home. *gasp* But not regularly.  I work trade shows that have a gift and/or garden theme and sell the most gorgeous windchimes in the world.  They are made in the USA, hand-tuned, and glorious.  I also work with wonderful people (one of whom gave me my very first yogurt recipe).  My latest gig?  I’ve launched myself into freelance writing and will submit an article to GRIT Magazine at the end of the month.  Actually, I didn’t launch myself — you guys pushed me.  (Thank you!)

What did you do before you met Josh?

I dated the wrong men, went to college, and worked in home health care.  After all, I am an amazing multitasker.  Actually, I also travelled quite a bit and spent my free time camping, riding my horses, hiking, going to the beach, and hanging out with my friends (I love you Landon, Erin, Dave, Linda, Noah, and Matt!)

Have you always enjoyed writing to the extent you now do? :)))

Oh, yes!  Writing is a passion of mine.  I kept journals for years and often wrote short stories.  I’ve even tried my hand at writing a novel (something I’ve thought about sharing with you guys in installments but am way too chicken).

Sheri from Me and My Tadpole writes: Who do you think has influenced you most in life, from goals to dreams?

My paternal grandfather.  Absolutely.  He was, is, and always will be my hero and greatest influence.  His vision and drive in his life was contagious.  Oh, and did I ever catch that bug.  He also loved the country and took great joy in simply being on his own land.  The apple did not fall far from the tree, eh?

Barb of A Cowboy’s Wife writes: Do you miss the north country? (I paraphrased)

I sometimes miss the snow — when everything is so still and peaceful.  I also miss the mountains.  Big time.  Mountains have always been part of my skyline (the one that reads: home) thanks to a childhood in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia.  We lived at the base of Mt. Rainier in Washington and that was totally awesome.  Of course, when you can see the mountain — it’s going to rain.  If you can’t see the mountain, then it’s raining right now.  Right?  (All you in the Northwest know that little saying.)

Holly of Yarn to Knit writes:  Is there anything you can’t do?

Goodness yes.  I can’t even make Jello.  That’s right.  We’ll call it my super power.  It will NOT set up for me. I also can’t stomach bananas or anything containing bananas.  Oh, and then there’s that bridge and tunnel phobia.  Yeah… I would say there’s quite a long list.

Shelli of Girl Without a Rearview Mirror writes: What do you mean you are not a photographer?

Well, I am a bit shy about my photos.  I’ve never had any real training (well, a few classes in high school and college).  So many of the bloggers out there take such amazing photos and are actual photographers with extraordinary cameras with stalker-style telephoto lenses.  You know, to quote my friend Katy: the cape and tights variety.  Super Photographers.

Laurie of Homekeeping Heart writes: Do you use separate pots and things to make your soap with?

When I first started making soap, I used an old kettle but after reading Smart Soapmaking — I realized that I didn’t have to as long as I scrubbed them really well.  Boy, do I ever love that book.

Goodness, I hope I answered them to your satsfaction.  Any other questions? Oh, and be sure you check out the latest article: NEWS at Razor Family Farms (GRIT.com).
