My Youngest

At last, baby pictures!  Would you look at those lashes?  They are so long that Rita Hayworth and Liz Taylor would turn flips in envy.  And those little hands… words fail me.  Okay, maybe some poetry bits trickled in (leftovers from my college days).  Sakes!  What a doll!

For those of you who don’t know, we have four children (2 boys, 2 girls) who we are hoping to adopt.  We are completely thrilled to be parents and are still a bit in shock over the whole thing.  We literally woke up one day and became parents to a sibling group of four.  God works in some very mysterious ways!

I was the youngest child in my family.  Youngest children tend to have it the easiest — the high expectations were for the oldest child and so the youngest children often end up with the most freedom to be… well… children.  Blissfully unaware of the events leading up to his placement in the foster-to-adopt program, he is a happy and laid-back little guy.

He coos, gurgles, hums, and giggles at all the right times — punctuating my sentences with his own insights.  We are all in love with him and not-so-secretly thrill to see his tiny hands outstretched to us.  We are instantly transformed into glowing delightful beings in those moments.  To be wanted by such a lovey, sweetly-scented baby is a feeling that should be bottled and then added to the city water supplies.  I believe, whole-heartedly, that this would reduce instances of violent crime.

Hmmm… on second thought… do hardened criminals drink water?  It doesn’t seem to be their style.  Perhaps it could be formulated to be absorbed through the skin.  In the movies, mob guys are always taking baths.  In fact, I can’t think of a single mob movie where someone isn’t in a tub.  Can you?

Not that any of that has to do with my youngest child.  Isn’t he a love, though?  Oh, I can’t wait to be able to show you his beautiful face.  None of these pictures do him justice.  Really.  I’m not just saying that.

  12. Lynnie on January 3rd, 2009 6:50 pm

Nothing like a set of warm baby arms to pull tight around you! Mmmm! He is simply gorgeous.

Today as I told my girls, “No, I can’t cook you dinner right now! We’re trying to start an I.V drip on this newborn goat and she needs our help right now. Can you give her some of your love?” I thought about your earlier question: Are farm kids made or born? I thought about how my girls know that sometimes you have to wait for the animals to be dealt with first. But then I thought, does it really matter? Appreciation for our world comes in so many different forms. Appreciation for animals, for music, for books, for gardening. I think love and appreciation can come at any time and open new windows for us at any age. I very much hope that’s true so that if there are more wonderful ways to enjoy the world out there I can still partake!

Take parenting, for example. I wasn’t born a parent, nobody was. And yet I think once you’re a parent you feel it in your bones, whether you adopt or come about your children through giving birth to them. I’m sure that’s how it will feel to your kids. No, they weren’t born on a farm, but I think they’ll feel it in their bones anyway!

He’s beautiful, Lacy. And wow, 4 all at once! You are a super hero!

  14. Paula on January 4th, 2009 12:31 am

What a sweetheart. I didn’t know you had such a little guy. What a blessing for you guys. I do hope that the older kids are adjusting well to whatever circumstances brought them to you and that the adoption goes quickly and smoothly for you. My parents were foster parents for quite a few years and my youngest brother is adopted. He was placed with my parents when he was three and is now 22.
Happy happy 2009 to the whole Razor family!

Oh my, Lacy! What a gorgeous little guy he is! I am so happy for you both to have found these four lovely children to take into your home, as your own!
    Peace.

How precious! I can tell you’re not prejudiced at all mama. Congratulations to you Lacy and your husband. I’m thrilled for you both.

It won’t be long before he’s feeding chickens and saying “boy Howdy”. Do farm kids say “boy Howdy”? I live in the country and I say it so, I”m going to say yes..he’ll be saying that.

Awwww…… he is so precious! I thought you’d already adopted the kids, Lacy; I didn’t realize the adoption wasn’t official, yet. Personally, I think you and Josh are AWESOME parents, and you deserve to have your children - and they ARE your children; no doubt about it.

You are never far from my thoughts, my friend. As you have been for a long time, now, you are in my prayers… *hug*

Amazing, Lacy! You’re up to your ears in the good life. It’s exciting — and not altogether surprising — to see where you’ve gone in the last 7 years. I’m aching for babes myself — what a thrill to have four beautiful children arrive at once.

  32. Ann on January 13th, 2009 1:50 pm

He is precious. I read about your prayer request today and I’m praying that there is a wonderful or at least really, really good end result to your journey! Let me know what I can do.
