Seeds of Change cover

My beloved Aunt Judy sent us a seed catalog like no other.  Seeds of Change started almost twenty years ago with an amazing mission of “Preserving Biodiversity and Promoting Sustainable, Organic Agriculture.”  There are over 700 varieties of organically produced seeds in their pages with stunning photos and interesting interviews with the people who grow them.

Perhaps what I like most about them is that they donate their unused seeds each year to projects that benefit children in underpriviledged areas.  They also calculated the amount of carbon dioxide that will be released during the production and distribution of the catalog and seed packets.  Then they planted organic trees in Northern New Mexico (which will sequester the same amount of carbon in their lifetime) to offset those greenhouse gases.  The best part?  They do it every year.

Truthfully, if you are going to go through the trouble to till, plant, and tend to a garden — why not make it organic?

“Only after the last tree has been cut down.  Only after
the last river has been poisoned.  Only after the last fish
has been caught. Only then will we find that
money cannot be eaten.”

Great article… and don’t forget the benefits that planting a tree will have on the environment. Each one will soak up 20kgs of CO2 every year and put enough Oxygen back in the atmosphere to support 2 people.
