Can Hardly Wait

We ache for our future farm. We long for it in the way that our stomachs growl when we pass church barbecues and the smoke from the grill trickles in through the windows with a scent that just screams our names. (Wow, I am now craving barbecue chicken like crazy! You too?)
Would you look at the joy behind those eyes of his? My husband is never happier than when he’s off to feed cattle, mend fences, and stroll the property. That there’s a workin’ man if ever I saw one.
I’m reminded of the song, Amarillo Sky by Jason Aldean… a Godly man who loves his family and works tirelessly to be a caretaker of creation. A great example occurred just last night when Dustin, one of our Golden Retrievers, caught one of the guineas (name: Dumber) in his mouth and gnawed it like a squeaky toy. Josh worried over the seemingly lifeless guinea, so when this morning showed the guinea alive and well — the relief was visible on his face.
Remember, this is the same man who set up surveillance on the front porch with Bible in hand and gun at the ready to protect the flock from the fox who saw our place as the drive-thru window at KFC. (Read: It’s a Game Called, “I Win”)
It is the picture above that comes to mind when I am asked how we intend to transition from military life to full-time farming and it fills me with resolve to keep plugging away at my garden and simple living. Josh, however, needs no encouragement because it simply part of the plan and he’s working that plan as if there were flashing lights and painted arrows pointing the way, ushering him ever-closer to his goals. Together, we are steadily walking a circuitous path to the verdant rolling hills of that shining future.

We’re so glad that you are with us. Thank you. I just thought that you should know.
Read about our adventures last April in Pure and Simple, where we as: “In the name of all things good and holy, where did all of our time and money go?” Check back later for a tutorial on making your own ricotta cheese (but only after you’ve made mozzarella!).

We’re working and waiting for that same dream, too…..and it’s not always easy! You’re exactly right, Lacy….knowing our husbands are faithful, steady, hardworking, and patient reassures me that God’s timing is perfect, and I’m SO grateful for my partner! What a blessing we’ve been given!

Farm life is not always easy… in fact, it’s rarely easy. But there’s no better way to live honestly and raise children.
I always tell Keith I want “Devoted farm wife” in my obit. Well, that’s kind of morbid but you know what I mean!
Lacy,
I love the pic of the “protector” on the front porch! Ready and able to keep his family (including critters) out of harm’s way….
Blessings to you,
Dianne

I hope that you’ll soon see your dream come true! I can imagine how josh feels when he’s feeding cattle, etc… That’s such a peaceful way of living!
Cheers,
Rosa
May I just say Thank-YOU for sharing your lives with us….you are an inspiration even to us ‘oldies’ out here…
…and isn’t it pure Joy to be married to your best friend
ps. and yes I actually have GIRL-friends, I just think for the most part I’d rather be with my hubby than anyone else in the world.
Dear Lacy,
I hear you loud and clear. You will get your reward for hard work. You both are an inspiration to many and doing His work. Keep up the great work. He blesses when you least expect it. Perhaps the blessins will over flow when you by the bigger farm in the west.
Love Always
Robbyn — I know that you know exactly what I mean and believe it or not, as I wrote this I thought of you and your husband. You inspire me!
The Cotton Wife — I totally get the epitaph and don’t think it’s morbid at all. You are every bit the devoted farm wife and who says you have to be dead for everyone to call you that?
Dianne — That is SO Josh! That picture is one of my absolute favorites because it represents my husband so completely. Did you read the post (Pure and Simple) about the guinea hen and the fox? You would love it. I do. It’s one of my favorite memories.
Rosa — You just rock! Have I told you that lately? Gracious, I can’t wait ’til you move to this continent!
Maureen — It is pure-JOY to be married to a best friend. It’s wonderful, challenging, and so comforting! You are too sweet. Thank you for your encouragement!
Blessings!
Lacy
Marlene — You know that I just love you! Yo are so right about the blessings when you least expect it! Thinking of you, Lacy
One time my FIL sat outside in the dark with a shot gun, daring the cows to get out of the fence again.
They decided they should stay there, but after about the 5th time of them getting out we began to wonder.
Im so proud of you guys Lacy! Your plugging along doing a fantastic job!
Beautiful post full of your dreams! Keep at it and some day soon it will all fall into place.
I imagine he won’t have any trouble transitioning! LOL! Are you waiting till he retires?
I can certainly relate. We have thought of getting a bigger place on occasion but we will see where we go with that. I understand the longing. I had it for years when we lived in town and I wanted an acreage. We are here now and I am feeling mostly content but sometimes a little crowded with us all in such a small space. It is great being in the country.
I really love this post. Beautiful thoughts shared and the farm life is a definite next to God experience. Living in His creation everyday as a caretaker is a wonderful way to spend life.
Sending you a big hug today! (((Lacy)))
I just thought you might need a hug today.
Great tribute for your hubby and your dreams!
I so want your dream to hurry up and happen, bc it is truly such a beautiful one. Argh. NOW now now, universe! I command thee! Or, I should say, I ask thee gently?
